Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1980 Volkswagen RABBIT recalls can be found in this database. It may be useful to use online problems resource that shows automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by vehicle owners. The problems are organized into groups with data published by vehicle, component, and specific issue. See also an updated list of 1980 Volkswagen RABBIT problems before buying a used car. In most cases, the recall is initiated by the manufacturer. But it also happens that it is forced to do so. The largest and most scandalous recall campaigns were those that were initiated by complaints and lawsuits from consumers through controlling state structures.

Additional Description: Very cool rare old 1980 Volkswagen Mk1 Rabbit Sportruck - PROJECT. 1.6l Gas engine 5 speed manual transmission. Got this out in Western Nebraska a year ago - been sitting a shed / barn. It was parked because of rust - i loaded it up and had a local shop weld up some support under the truck on passenger side lower control arm area - then also some inner fender well repair on that passenger side to make the truck ' Safe ' to drive. I also flushed fuel tank - did new rear brakes ( drums ) and wheel bearings and fresh e brake cables. The truck runs and drives - took it on a few road trips. Then the clutch started slipping and i parked it. ( please read above also about the alternator voltage regulator ) The truck will start ( with a jump start and drive around my shop but once that clutch gets hot it doesnt like to work it just likes to slip. Please inspect the pictures for the rust ! its every where ! But what are going to do - throw the truck away? No - i replaced the truck after thinking about ABA swap for awhile and collecting parts. I would bring a trailer and $2000 in cash ( i am losing money at $2000 FYI ) If it does NOT sell by end of July i will replace clutch and sort alternator and then ask $4000.1980 Rabbit Truck - It got rust - Every where. But it is 1980 Westy Tarpon Blue Sportruck. I had some welding repair work done to the passenger side lower control arm area and inner strut tower to make it ' safer ' to drive. I took alot of picture of it up on the hoist., 1.6l Gas engine - CIS fuel injection. 5 speed manual transmission. Truck been sitting a few years so i did a fuel tank flush - then had to do all new rear brake drums / wheel bearings and rear e brake cables. I went on a few short 50 mile road trips- the clutch would slip going up hills. But it made it - then i used the truck to push a TOUAREG into my shop and - the clutch was NOT HAPPY. When it cold it seems ok - but i would probably not drive it very far. The alternator voltage regulator is bad - the truck will NOT shut off with the key sometimes - unhooked the alternator wiring and BAM it shuts of everytime. I have not had time to look into any further - i was going to ABA 2.0 swap the truck eventually - but i just bought another truck that better serves my needs. As i was uploading picture i forgot that i had a new exhaust installed ( ya forgot it cost me $300+ too )
