To be sure you access all the more than 210 photographs, including a short walk-around-and-startup video, please go to our main website: GarageKeptMotors.) "... the automotive equivalent of a sawed-off shotgun." Hemmings "Muscle Machines," July 2011 That "Muscle Machines" description above is probably the best explanation for why so many serious Mopar fans would reserve a top spot on their "most desired" wish list for a Hemi-powered 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T. If they were really into day-dreaming, they'd go on to add specifics like Hemi-orange paint over black upholstery (because "orange" and "Hemi" were made for each other); automatic transmission (to ensure the 6-second quarter-mile times), and a Shaker hood (because, well... "Shaker"). And maybe if they'd smoked something you couldn't purchase legally back in '71, they might submit one more request: "Make it a convertible." Who can blame these Challenger lovers for conjuring up what many believe is the best muscle car of all time? Unfortunately, they'd have to be dreaming, because Dodge manufactured only 12 such Challengers equipped that way, and any of those that remain are million-dollar collectibles, probably locked away from prying eyes and heavy feet. Too bad, because one other thing is true about Mopar fans: They want to drive! The '71 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible offered here is, quite literally, a dream come true. Equipped exactly like the dream car described, it differs in three important ways. First, its power comes from a brand new, reliable 472-cubic-inch Hemi crate engine. Second, while it was born a Dodge Challenger, it has since been rebuilt literally from the ground up into a stunning R/T recreation. Third, it can be purchased for a fraction of what one of the dozen original cars would go for, assuming you could find one. The best news out of all is that this Challenger R/T, while certainly a star-to-be at any cars-and-coffee gathering, can actually be driven the way it was intended (or... blasted off like a sawed-off shotgun, if you prefer the Hemmings metaphor.) The restoration and up-build of this car are fully documented in a binder that's included in the sale. Detailed photographs of its original condition, disassembly, reassembly, painting and more are all there. The use of as many new-old-stock parts as possible marked the car's over-1,100-hour California rotisserie restoration. Available at the GarageKeptMotors website, the more than 210 high-definition photographs of the car, taken from virtually every angle including from underneath, provide a good overview of the car's first-class, practically showroom-new condition. The short walk-around-and-startup video gives a brief audio sampling of real Mopar muscle. We encourage in-person inspections of the car at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call or email us to arrange an advance appointment, or to ask any questions. Perusing the photographs, Mopar fans will quickly spot all the car's details and features. We add them here on the off-chance they miss one: wood-grain Rallye dashboard featuring a full array of gauges and a tachometer; wood-rim rally steering wheel; bucket seats; bespoke t-shifter Torque Flite automatic; full center console; power steering; power windows; power disc brakes; rally wheels; R/T side stripe decals in black; BFG T/A Radial tires; power black-fabric convertible top; the 472 cid Hemi crate engine with 8.75 Sure-Grip rear differential; rear-deck spoiler; and dual crossover exhaust with quad-exit square tips. And to be complete, while we don't think anyone would have missed it: the Shaker hood. Drive the "Best Muscle Car in the World" for a fraction of the real thing. Did we mention it's "Hemi orange?"

Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1971 Dodge CHALLENGER recalls can be found in this database. It may be useful to use online problems resource that shows automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by vehicle owners. The problems are organized into groups with data published by vehicle, component, and specific issue. See also an updated list of 1971 Dodge CHALLENGER problems before buying a used car. In most cases, the recall is initiated by the manufacturer. But it also happens that it is forced to do so. The largest and most scandalous recall campaigns were those that were initiated by complaints and lawsuits from consumers through controlling state structures.
