Recalls are a well-established global practice; from time to time they are announced by almost all manufacturers of not only cars, but also any other industrial products. But since a car is considered a source of increased danger, it is recalls in the automotive industry that attract the most attention and cause the greatest resonance. Check if your car is covered by a recall campaign. Sometimes manufacturers will recall their cars because of substandard parts or workmanship and repair them for free, regardless of the warranty. This is called a recall campaign. More information on 1993 Mercedes-Benz 300-CLASS recalls can be found in this database. Additional Description: "Last of the True Mercedes-Benz". The Convertibles and Coupes of this model are in very high demand. This is a good-to-excellent condition Cabrio with an AutoCheck Score of 50 (versus 25-45 norm). The interior of this car is all original and in great condition. This vintage Mercedes will typically do well over 300000 miles. 5k miles on rebuilt transmission. Ask any Mercedes-Benz mechanic about the 1993-95 E-Class (W124): this is the last truly hand-built Mercedes Benz with structural integrity and a build quality unsurpassed. The straight 6-cylinder is considered by many MBZ enthusiast to be the best-built MBZ motor not an aluminum block but cast steel with chrome-moly linings. It outperformed contemporary sports cars like the Porsche 944 and IROC Camaro with a top speed of 140 mph and 0-60 mph in 7.8 seconds. The E-Class was faster than the larger S-Class 380 and 500 models but could also be driven carefully to manage 30 mpg on the highway. Due to the high cost of German Engineered build-quality the W124 was designed to last many miles with awards actually given for high mileage versions at 1000000 miles. This unique characteristic of ownership explains the surprising number still on the road. Cost cutting became critical in the mid/late 90s as the "no expense spared" over-engineered Mercedes-Benz models with a solid construction and the use of quality materials struggled to sell against mass-build Japanese high end cars. Much of the 124's engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology at its introduction incorporating innovations that have been adopted throughout the industry. It had one of the lowest coefficients of drag (Cd) of any vehicle of the time (0.28) due to its aerodynamic body which included plastic molding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. Owners report getting low- mid-20s MPG and many have said they've exceeded 30 MPG on long trips. When new this car had an MSRP of $76500.
